Planning the future
of Blockley Village Shop & Café

It was standing room only in St George’s Hall on December 18 2010 at a public meeting to discuss the long-term future of the shop and café. An estimated 100 people made their way through deep snow and freezing temperatures to hear a presentation about the management committee’s efforts to ensure that the people of Blockley will always have a village shop that belongs to the community.

There was unanimous support for pushing ahead with a plan to build new premises on the site of the public toilets close to the Old Coach House.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

• We have 580 members.

•We employ 17 local people and have a turnover
of about £500,000 per year.

•The present Shop and Café is the largest and most
successful community shop in Britain.

• Planning permission for a new shop has
now been obtained (November 2011).

THIS IS WHAT WE PROPOSE

A 'designed for purpose' shop and café on the site adjacent to the Dovecote, including the public toilets. The owners are willing to sell at a reasonable price.

A recent customer survey shows that a high proportion of our business comes from the High Street area and visitors, This confirms the commercial suitability of the Dovecote site.

YOUR SUPPORT

We need the support of the village to raise funds and work towards building a shop that is designed for purpose and will belong to the village in perpetuity.
